We are very aware that for many students and young design practitioners, paying for a session (and a crit particularly) is a little difficult to swallow. We are therefore looking to expand our funding model for sponsorship of sessions to include suppliers to the industry, and other organisations that have an interest in the health of the designer market.

Recently, we experienced the real hardship a young design student (in this case, in architecture) experiences finding placement in a company in order to gain real-world experience.

This is really sad.

Perhaps we should start an ‘intern position offered’ page from design practices that support our core mission… let us know what you think or, if you are in a position to help a young designer with an internship, let us know here.

Jonathan is invited back to review the progressed designs of the Architecture Masters students, following the sessions back in May - the ideas that the students have developed are extraordinary, and it is so rewarding to see how the previous crit sessions helped them coalesce their sometimes fractured ideas into the first signs of real buildings - tremendous!

Jonathan is honoured to be invited to participate in a remote crit session with Architecture Masters students - reviewing their final design project preliminary proposals. With three of the full-time teaching staff observing, one other external critter, and eleven twenty minute sessions, it’s like speed dating - only more fun. What a blast! There should be more of this…

No longer being contracted to a university, Jonathan really misses the interaction with students and fellow teaching staff. At the same time, whilst jointly supervising an Architecture Masters student, he is approached by other students for crits, as they are just not able to get as many as they need from their institution.

Somebody should really do something about this… an idea starts to form…
